FAQ
How important is homework in the class? NO LATE WORK WILL BE PERMITTED!
I consider homework to be critical. Students who complete their
homework score an average of 20-25 points higher on tests than students who
do not do the homework. This only applies to students who actually do their
homework BEFORE the test...not those who complete the homework and turn it
in late. Obviously, the test is far more important. It counts 30% of your
grade where homework counts 10%. The best possible combination of work to
obtain the best score is to do the homework as assigned BEFORE the test,
turn in on the day it is due and you will find yourself well prepared for
the test.
How can I earn extra credit?
There are a few things that you can do to earn extra credit. However, it
needs to be stated that you should not ask me for extra credit work if you
haven't even attempted to complete the assigned work. My philosophy on
Extra Credit is that it is EXTRA, not in lieu of regularly assigned work!
Please don't ask me for Extra Credit if you haven't done the required work.
It's like asking your boss for overtime to get work done when you haven't
even done your regular job...not acceptable. }8-(
How important is attendance?
Do you really need to ask that one? If you're not in class, I can't teach
you. Students with high absences for any reason (illness, laziness,
skipping, suspensions, etc.) are far more likely to fail the course. The
numbers don't lie!
I want you to be successful THE FIRST TIME.
How can I get on the teacher's good side?!
I really appreciate students who try hard and are respectful to me and to
their classmates. I promise to work at least as hard as you do to help you
be successful. I won't do it for you and I'll expect a lot of you...because
I believe you can do it. I will challenge you every chance I get, to think
higher, think deeper, and think critically. It's not all about social studies.
It's about you becoming an informed citizen. I'm trying to train you to
take better care of your world and your subsequent generations than my
generation and those before me did.
But on a daily basis, give me the S-L-A-N-T....
What is S-L-A-N-T?
S - sit up
L - lean forward
A - ask and answer appropriate questions
N - nod from time to time so I know you're still with me
T - track the teacher
If I think you're paying attention, I'm less likely to mess with you!
What is 3B4Me?
If I've given you instructions and you weren't paying attention, I may point
to a 3B4Me sign. This means you need to ask 3 other students before you ask
me again. If 3 more students weren't paying attention, I've got problems
and I need to deal with some obvious discipline issues!
How old is Ms. Robertson?
It's not in the curriculum and therefore, not very important. I can assure
you that I'm not a Cretaceous fossil! I can also assure you that my
fossilized remains will be found among the Cenozoic Quartenary Holocene
rock layers. However, there is plenty of evidence and scientific thought
now that we may be in a different epoch...Cenozoic Quartenary Anthropocene!
Besides, don't you know it's impolite to ask a woman her age? 8-)
